TECHNOLOGICAL PLATFORM:
PT3 Embedded systems

OBJECTIVES:
The main objective of the project, in accordance with the Technological platform PT3 and the Subject area S/T 3.1.3 is to develop mounted computational and control systems with intelligent infrastructure for the control of the active filters of harmonics compensation, with the following measurable objectives:
- creation of an input data database;
- development of a design programme package by modelling and simulation techniques;
- realization of a platform for development of DSP control programme of the active filters;
- development of a programme package of analysis and control of the active filters which is adapted to the filter type, also to the type and the parameters of the supply network and the type of the nonlinear load generating harmonics in the network.
The partners aim to connect to priorities, objectives and specific activities of the European research area on mounted systems of computation and control (Subject area S/T 3.1.3) applied to active filter control as modern solutions of quality assurance of the electric energy and efficiency assurance at the energy supplier and consumer(Subject area S/T 5.8), by realizing the fast design base by modelling and simulation and of the programme package for customer oriented manufacturing(Subject area S/T 3.3.3).
Specific objectives:
The applied and pre-competitive research activities, the high complexity technological development activities, the support activities of sustaining and promoting the results of the project which are performed in common by the project partners aim at:
- integration, quality and performance level increase for the RD activities of the consortium, for the human resource education and for the innovative capacity of the partners in connection with the European objectives;
- development of the stable partnership between the participants at regional and national level;
- the equilibrated development of the research and development activities and infrastructure, aiming to eliminate big differences between the regions of economic development;
- development of the mobility support;
- development of the dissemination and application support aiming at European competitiveness;
- the increase of the technical and qualitative level of the products carried out by economical agents CO (P1) and P5 which are also research - development companies in colaboration with university centres P2, P3, P4, with a view to ecological processes, according to quality and environmental modernized and performant standards at European level
- development of the research bases of the partners (best performance network analyzers for the energy quality, software development platform for industrial applications – with an intelligent structure based on newest generation DSP – fast, computationally powerful from the point of view of mathematical computation per time unit, programmable by an evaluated language), ensuring high level equipment for the development, testing, optimization of the computing and control systems for active filters. The research basis of the partners working in this network should become a reference for the subject areas and the specified domain and should lead to a scientifical cluster by the project manager, a national institute for research and development, respectively.

POTENTIAL USERS:
- Romanian manufacturers of power converters, mostly Small and Medium size Enterprises which may produce active filters for the national industry and become competitive at the European level by using the new control systems;
- the final users: electric energy consumers at all levels also the energy suppliers aiming to improve the quality of the electric energy to cope with the limits of harmonic pollution specified by the national and European norms and to increase efficiency.

TECHNICAL, ECONOMICAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT:
The technical impact will be pointed out by the expected results presented above, correlated with the proposed objectives.
The scientific impact is pointed out by:
- development of an algorithm with large applicability for active filter control;
- knowledge and learning for opening the horizon in the field of digital controls and of controls fitted out with IT performant systems adapted to the present requirements in the industry field;
- adaptation of the courses from the profile technical universities, with a view to preparing the future engineers for developing solutions and products at the present technological level, required by the industrial process sustainable development and safety, complying with requirements for environmental conditions quality and safety, for polluting effects removal
- from the research field of the project proposal, there will result themes for graduation papers and doctor thesis
- internally, the development of the well endowed researching facilities of the participating institutes, by providing the endowments and components of high technical level, for informatized computing and control systems
- extension of the research and designing methods by digital modelling and simulation
- dissemination of the research results at a large, national and international scale, by scientific publications, presentation and debates at scientific events
- opening of the prospect for achieving an international partnership based on the objectives of the technology platform PT3/integrated systems
Social impact
- setting up of a partnership which could lead to a scientific cluster within the project field
- development of the capacity to communicate in modern scientific and technological terms with world level specialists in the S/T areas specified for the project
- Sustained development of private companies (especially SMEs) by technological transfer in active filter manufacturing and by mounting them to final users
- increase of research interest and attraction of young graduates co-opted in the project
- development of the industrial companies trust in the scientific and technological services offered from the RD units in institutes and universities, by widely disseminating the results in many stages, by demonstrating with functional model the concrete results of research
- the confidence in approaching projects with similar applications and other specific applications.
The project achievement involves specialists with high scientific technical and technological qualification.The results are addressing to the specialists from industrial environment, with high qualification, for understanding the complex phenomena related to the causes and effects of harmonics, the highly positive economic impact on the industrial process quality by decreasing the harmonics weight in the supply network, superior performances of the active filters as the latest solutions for harmonics compensation.
The impact on the environment cannot be identified directly, but only as a consequence of the measures for increasing the energy efficiency, accompanied by the reduction of the emissions specific to the electric current.
